LED-Amortisationsrechner für Hallenstrahler
High bay lighting calculator: what LED saves in your building
What would replacing metal halide, mercury vapour or sodium lamps with LED save in your building, and how soon would it pay for itself? Enter your own figures and the result updates straight away.
The calculator starts with our 150 W LED high bay. You can change every field.
How to set up the calculator
Four details are enough for a first result: how many fittings, what is fitted now, how long they run and what you pay for electricity.
- Existing fitting
- Metal halide, mercury vapour or sodium at 250 or 400 W. The calculator uses the power including the ballast, so around 450 W for a 400 W lamp. If none of the options fits, enter your own figure.
- Power of the LED fitting
- For example 100, 150 or 200 W. As a rough rule, a 100 W high bay replaces a 250 W discharge lamp and a 150 W high bay replaces a 400 W lamp.
- Hours and days
- Your operating hours. The calculator assumes 50 working weeks a year.
- Electricity price, excl. VAT
- The preset of 17.2 ct/kWh is the German average for small and medium-sized industrial users. Prices differ from country to country, so please enter your own: the net amount of your electricity bill divided by the kWh used.
- Price per fitting, excl. VAT
- The price of each LED fitting. Without a price the calculator shows the saving but not the payback.
- More detail
- Optional: age of the installation, when the lamps were last replaced, replacement interval, cost per replacement, access platform and installation per new fitting. With these, the maintenance you no longer need is included and installation counts towards the investment.
What the result shows
The saving in electricity costs per year, the lower consumption in kWh and per cent, the CO₂ reduction, the investment and the time until it pays for itself. A chart shows the costs over eight years with and without the conversion. You can save the result as a PDF or talk it through with us.
An example: 20 metal halide fittings at 400 W replaced by 20 LED high bays at 150 W, running ten hours a day, five days a week. At 17.2 ct/kWh that saves around €2,580 a year. With €60 installation per fitting, the conversion pays for itself in a little over a year.
Matching LED high bays
Our three high bays deliver 200 lumens per watt and use a Philips driver. Each product page has the same calculator, which picks up the wattage and quantity price of that fitting.
- LED high bay 100 W, replaces 250 W metal halide, mercury or sodium lamps
- LED high bay 150 W, replaces 400 W lamps
- LED UFO high bay 200 W, for ceilings from about 7 to 8 m or where more light is needed
How many fittings your building needs, which type suits your ceiling height and how to avoid glare is covered in our guide to LED high bay lighting.

The payback is an estimate based on your figures. Disposal of the old fittings, downtime during the conversion or a different electricity price will change the result.
