140mm Dimmable LED Downlight with Trailing-Edge Dimming — Fits Cutout Sizes 110 to 135 mm
Whether you're renovating an existing property or fitting out a new build, one question arises before every recessed installation: will the fitting actually fit my hole? The ED4KX with its 140mm outer diameter covers six of the most common ceiling cutout sizes — 110, 115, 120, 125, 130, and 135 mm — bridging a significant gap in the market.
At 11 watts and 1,100 lumens, the ED4KX is the equivalent of a traditional 60-watt incandescent bulb at one tenth of the energy consumption. The luminous efficacy of 100 lm/W is above average for a compact downlight of this installation depth (36.5 mm).
Light Quality: CRI 92 — Measured, Not Just Claimed
CRI 80 vs. CRI 92 — the visible difference: In retail, colour accuracy drives purchasing decisions. With CRI 92, reds, oranges, yellows, and purples appear as they do under daylight — not washed out as with standard CRI-80 products.
The CRI value (Colour Rendering Index / Ra value) indicates how naturally colours appear under a light source. Ra 90+ is the minimum requirement for retail spaces and workplaces with colour rendering requirements (EN 12464-1). The ED4KX is supplied with a measured value of CRI 92–93 — significantly above the market level of many CRI-90 products.

The UGR value of 23 is a rarely communicated but important quality feature: it indicates the unified glare rating in accordance with EN 12464-1. Values ≤ 25 are compliant for retail and general office lighting. For display screen equipment (DSE) workstations, a stricter limit of UGR < 19 applies under EN 12464-1. No flicker even when dimmed — tested to IEC standard.

The installation depth of just 36.5 mm makes the ED4KX suitable even for shallow ceiling voids. Spring clips ensure tool-free installation — simply insert into the ceiling aperture and clip into place.

Important Note on Trailing-Edge Dimming: Use only LED-compatible wall dimmers (trailing-edge / phase-cut). Conventional dimmers designed for incandescent bulbs are not compatible and may cause flicker, buzzing, or malfunctions.
Please note: the LED wattage stated in data sheets is typically somewhat lower when using trailing-edge dimming compared to other dimming methods (DALI, 0–10 V). This is a physical characteristic of this dimming type and not a product defect.
Frequently Asked Questions about the ED4KX 140mm
Which ceiling cutout sizes is the 140mm downlight suitable for?
The ED4KX (140mm outer Ø) is suitable for ceiling cutouts of 110 to 135 mm, covering apertures of 110, 115, 120, 125, 130, and 135 mm.
As a rule of thumb: the cutout must be at least 10–15 mm smaller than the outer diameter of the fitting. For larger apertures (e.g. 150–175mm), we recommend the 180mm model ED6KX.
Is an LED driver included — or do I need to purchase one separately?
Yes — the LED driver is always included. We supply complete bundles only: luminaire body + matching driver.
The trailing-edge version includes the Interlight IL-EDD40 — an 11W dimmable constant-current driver (phase-cut), CE-certified and RoHS-compliant. You can install and connect the fitting immediately upon receipt.
Can the 140mm downlight be used in bathrooms?
Yes — the ED4KX is rated IP44 (splash-proof) and is therefore suitable for bathrooms, kitchens, and covered outdoor areas. Zone classification per IEC 60364-7-701 (UK: BS 7671):
- Zone 0 (directly in water): not suitable — IP67+ required
- Zone 1 (directly above bath/shower): not suitable — IP44 is insufficient
- Zone 2 and outside (from 60 cm away from the water source): IP44 is sufficient ✓
For use directly in the shower zone, we recommend an IP65 fitting — please get in touch.
