LED ceiling light 620 x 620 mm: measured CRI 92, UGR < 19, frame included
A complete ceiling luminaire for solid ceilings, not a bare panel for a suspended grid. Two things set it apart from the usual product: a colour rendering index that we measured ourselves at Ra 92, where most panels sit between Ra 80 and 85, and a choice of dimming you order directly instead of requesting it.
Ra 92 instead of Ra 85: where you actually see it
Most 620 x 620 panels sit between Ra 80 and 85. We measured this luminaire with a spectrometer and reached Ra 92. The supplier states Ra above 90.
The difference shows wherever colours and surfaces are judged: fabrics and leather in fashion retail, sample boards in kitchen and tile showrooms, bread and fruit on the counter, spectacle frames at the optician. And on faces, because the skin tone values R13 and R15 come in at 92 and 88.
| Colour rendering | Typically found in | Good enough for |
|---|---|---|
| Ra 80 | standard panel, DIY store | storage, corridors, plant rooms |
| Ra 85 | better office panel | offices, administration |
| Ra 92 | this ceiling light | retail, clinics, salons, video calls |
| Ra 97–98 | our CRI 98 downlights | mixing colours, matching samples |
Ra 92 is not enough for colour-critical work. Anyone mixing hair colour or matching colour samples needs Ra 97 or better. In a salon that means this ceiling light for general and backwash lighting, and our CRI 98 downlights above the colour bar and the styling stations.
Flicker-free, measured below 3 per cent
Flicker is not consciously visible. It still tires the eyes and is a known trigger for headaches during screen work. All three versions use ENEC-certified drivers. We measured them ourselves as well and came in below 3 per cent. The full measurement report with the spectrum and the individual values R1 to R15 is available as a PDF.
Measured at full output. No measurement is available for dimmed operation.
Three ways to dim, one luminaire
Panel and frame are identical across all three versions. Only the driver differs, and with it the way you control the light.
| Version | What it needs | What it does | Suited to |
|---|---|---|---|
| On/off | an ordinary light switch | switching | storage, workshops, corridors, stairwells |
| Trailing edge | an LED wall dimmer | smooth dimming | home offices, small offices, salons, clinics |
| DALI | a dedicated two-core control cable | individual addressing, groups, scenes, KNX via gateway | clinics, training rooms, coworking, hotels, chains |
Trailing edge: dimming without extra cabling
This version dims from an LED wall dimmer of the trailing-edge type, often sold as an RC or universal dimmer. No separate control cable is needed, the existing 230 V supply is enough.
An older dimmer from the incandescent or halogen era will usually not work. Those units are mostly leading-edge and expect a minimum load that a 32 watt luminaire never reaches. The result is flicker, buzzing, or a dimming range that only works in the top third. Tell us the make and model of your dimmer and we will check the combination before you order.
DALI: every luminaire individually addressable
With DALI each driver is given its own short address during commissioning. Every luminaire can then be dimmed on its own, grouped later on and built into lighting scenes without touching the wiring. A KNX-DALI gateway ties the installation into an existing building control system, for daylight-linked control along a window row or separate scenes for opening hours, consultation and cleaning.
In return, DALI needs a dedicated two-core control cable to every luminaire alongside the 230 V supply. If you are retrofitting and cannot pull that cable, stay with trailing edge.
On/off: when nothing needs dimming
The simplest and least expensive version, switched from an ordinary light switch. Sensible wherever light on or off is all you need and many luminaires are switched together.
The dimming method sits in the driver, not in the panel, so a later change is possible. Going from on/off to trailing edge only takes a different driver; DALI adds the control cable.
Glare matters wherever people look upwards
UGR < 19 is almost always justified with office work. The value counts wherever people spend long periods looking up. In these rooms the customer stares into the luminaire far longer than any office worker does:
- yoga studio, lying on the mat
- hair salon, head tilted back at the backwash unit
- physiotherapy and massage, on the treatment couch
- beauty salon, on the treatment bed
- home office, glancing up from the screen
Is one luminaire enough above a desk?
The light distribution in the data sheet gives 1,880 lux at a distance of one metre and 470 lux at two metres. With a ceiling height of 2.50 m and a desk height of 0.75 m that works out at roughly 600 lux directly below the luminaire. EN 12464-1 asks for 500 lux at the workstation.
Position is what matters: the luminaire belongs above the desk, not in the middle of the room. For a larger office, allow one luminaire per 6 to 8 square metres.
Choose colour temperature and frame at the top of this page. For several luminaires we will work out the quantity for your room.
⬆️ Back to the optionsColour temperatures
All three share the same wattage, the same colour rendering and the same glare rating. They differ in the mood they create. The supplier specifies the luminous flux for 4000 K only; warm white sits a few per cent below it by design.
🔴 Warm white
3000 kelvinCalm and domestic. For waiting rooms, the backwash area in a salon, yoga and wellness, fashion and food retail.
⚪ Neutral white
4000 kelvinThe standard for focused work. For home offices, small offices, clinics, opticians, training rooms and salon styling stations.
🔵 Daylight white
6000 kelvinCrisp and alerting. For workshops, inspection benches, repair work, gym floors and dry storage areas.
Frames
The surface-mounting frame turns the panel into a luminaire. It is screwed straight to a solid ceiling and the driver disappears inside it. Neither a suspended grid nor a ceiling cut-out is required, which suits flats, period offices and rented retail units.
Choose between the standard version, where the screws remain visible, and the premium frame for rooms where the ceiling is in the customer's line of sight.
Construction and replacement
The luminaire consists of three separate parts: panel, frame and driver.
- If the driver fails, only the driver is replaced.
- To change the colour temperature, only the panel is swapped; the frame stays on the ceiling.
- To add dimming later, a different driver is all it takes.
- The LEDs inside the panel cannot be replaced individually.
Where it fits
- home offices and small offices, including permanent teleworking stations
- medical, physiotherapy and occupational therapy practices: reception, corridors, consulting rooms
- hair salons and barbershops: general and backwash lighting
- beauty, nail and lash studios as general lighting
- retail, opticians, kitchen and tile showrooms
- yoga, pilates, dance schools, gym floors
- training, seminar and meeting rooms
Not suitable for wet areas, showers, commercial kitchens cleaned with water, underground car parks or outdoor use. The luminaire is rated IP20 and belongs in dry interiors.
Frequently asked questions
Will it fit a solid concrete ceiling without a suspended grid?
Yes, that is what it is built for. The frame is screwed straight to the ceiling, the panel sits inside it and the driver fits within the frame. No ceiling cut-out and no suspended grid are needed.
Which dimmer does the trailing-edge version need?
An LED wall dimmer of the trailing-edge type, often sold as an RC or universal dimmer. An older dimmer from the incandescent or halogen era will usually not work, because it is leading-edge and expects a minimum load that a 32 watt luminaire never reaches. Tell us the make and model and we will check the combination before you order.
What do I need to control the luminaires over DALI?
A DALI controller or gateway and a dedicated two-core control cable to every luminaire, alongside the 230 V supply. The controller assigns the addresses during commissioning. A KNX-DALI gateway ties the installation into an existing KNX system.
Is one luminaire enough for a home office?
Above the desk, yes. The data sheet gives 1,880 lux at one metre and 470 lux at two metres. With a 2.50 m ceiling and a 0.75 m desk that comes to roughly 600 lux directly below the luminaire, against the 500 lux required. Fit it above the desk rather than in the centre of the room. For larger rooms, allow one luminaire per 6 to 8 square metres.
What does UGR below 19 mean?
UGR stands for Unified Glare Rating and describes psychological glare. EN 12464-1 sets a maximum of 19 for offices and screen workstations. The prismatic diffuser spreads the light so that this figure is met.
Is it really flicker-free?
We measured the drivers ourselves and the flicker figure is below 3 per cent. The measurement was taken at full output, not in dimmed operation.
What does Ra 92 mean and do I need it?
The colour rendering index describes how natural colours look under a light source. Ordinary panels reach Ra 80 to 85, this luminaire measured Ra 92, with skin tone values R13 and R15 at 92 and 88. For colour-critical work such as mixing hair colour we recommend our CRI 98 downlights.
Can the frame, panel or driver be replaced individually?
Yes. All three parts can be ordered separately. If the driver fails, only the driver is replaced. For a different colour temperature you only need another panel and the frame stays on the ceiling. The LEDs inside the panel cannot be replaced individually.
Can it be used in a bathroom, kitchen or outdoors?
No. Rated IP20, it belongs in dry interiors only. Wet areas, showers, commercial kitchens cleaned with water, underground car parks and outdoor positions need a luminaire rated IP44 or IP65.
