A plain aluminium cylinder that puts out a lot of light from a small footprint. Made for gyms, halls, foyers and corridors where the ceiling cannot or should not be opened.
A lot of light from a compact cylinder
The luminaire sits directly on the ceiling. There is no cut-out and no recess depth to worry about. That suits concrete and exposed concrete ceilings, timber beams and rooms without a suspended ceiling.
3,750 lumens is a lot for a surface luminaire of this size. In our market comparison, surface downlights with a similar output were mostly 200 to 265 mm in diameter. That makes the Ø150 a good fit for rooms with a 4 to 6 m ceiling, where smaller downlights would be too weak and high bay luminaires would look too industrial.
18 W or 33 W?
This version is switched, not dimmed, so you choose the brightness through the wattage. The 33 W with 3,750 lm is the luminaire for high rooms. The 18 W with 2,330 lm suits rooms up to about 3.5 m and corridors where less light is enough. At 129 lm/W it is also the more efficient of the two.
If you need even more light, a 40 W version with 4,025 lm is available in the same size on request.
3000 K or 4000 K: how the room looks
The colour temperature shapes the atmosphere more than the luminaire itself. Pick a room and switch between warm white and neutral white.
AI visualisation
For rooms where people spend time
Gives wood, fabrics and skin a warm tone. Suits foyers, function halls, restaurants and waiting areas.
For rooms where people are active
Looks clear and matter-of-fact, contrasts stand out more. Suits gyms, corridors, stairwells and multi-purpose rooms.
Both colour temperatures have the same wattage and the same design. In one building you can split them by room, for example 3000 K in the foyer and 4000 K in the training area next to it.
Where the Ø150 belongs
Gym and studio
High ceilings, often open with visible services. The black version disappears visually under dark ceilings. No flicker in phone videos.
Hall and multi-purpose room
Community hall, assembly hall, event space. Plenty of light from high up without rebuilding the ceiling.
Foyer, entrance, corridor
Representative areas with greater ceiling height. In the lower corridor next door, the Ø115 gives the same look.
Surface downlight, surface spotlight, cylinder light: what is meant?
A surface mounted downlight is fixed onto the ceiling instead of being recessed into it. It shines straight down and cannot be swivelled. “Surface spotlight” usually means smaller, often adjustable spots, frequently with a GU10 lamp. Because of their shape, luminaires like this one are also called cylinder downlights or cylinder ceiling lights.
Which size for which ceiling height?
The higher the ceiling, the more light each luminaire has to deliver. The table shows the illuminance directly below one luminaire, calculated from the light distribution curve in the data sheet.
| Distance luminaire to floor | Ø150 · 33 W · 3,750 lm | Ø150 · 18 W · 2,330 lm | Ø115 · 26 W · 3,100 lm |
|---|---|---|---|
| 3 m | approx. 500 lx | approx. 310 lx | approx. 410 lx |
| 4 m | approx. 280 lx | approx. 175 lx | approx. 230 lx |
| 5 m | approx. 180 lx | approx. 110 lx | approx. 150 lx |
| 6 m | approx. 125 lx | approx. 80 lx | approx. 100 lx |
| 8 m | approx. 70 lx | approx. 45 lx | approx. 60 lx |
Calculated values for 4000 K: centre luminous intensity from the data sheet curve, about 1,200 cd per 1,000 lm, divided by the square of the distance. Applies to a single luminaire without reflection from walls and ceiling. The average illuminance in the room depends on the number and spacing of luminaires. We are happy to help with that.
As a rough guide: up to about 3.5 m, the Ø115 or the Ø150 with 18 W is enough in many rooms. From 4 m, and wherever a lot of light needs to reach the floor, the Ø150 with 33 W is the better choice.
Measured by us
Data sheets state minimum values. We measured the samples ourselves with a spectrometer on 8 and 15 October 2026.
| Value | 3000 K | 4000 K | Data sheet |
|---|---|---|---|
| Measured colour temperature | 3047 K | 3976–3979 K | 3000 / 4000 K |
| Colour rendering Ra | 85 | 84 | ≥ 80 |
| CQS | 86 | 84 | – |
| Flicker | 0 % | 0–1 % | – |
| Flicker index | 0.00 | 0.00 | – |
| Colour point | within 3 SDCM (measured at 4000 K) | SDCM 3 | |
Measured on one Ø150 sample each. Ra and CQS describe how natural colours look; values above 80 are usual for commercial spaces.
Ø115 and Ø150 in the same room
At 4000 K, the colour points of our samples of both sizes were very close (x 0.3831 / y 0.3831 for the Ø150, x 0.3847 / y 0.3868 for the Ø115). If you fit the Ø150 in the foyer and the Ø115 in the corridor next to it, our measurement shows no visible difference in light colour.
Why flicker matters here
Flicker is rarely visible to the naked eye, but a phone camera shows it straight away as stripes in the picture. A lot of filming happens in gyms, and events in halls get recorded. With 0 to 1 % flicker and a flicker index of 0.00, the driver gives no trouble here.
Finishes: housing and reflector
You choose the housing in white or black. The reflector has a silver-look finish on both colours: the glossy inner surface directs the light downwards and gives the luminaire a technical, high-quality look.

White or black reflector on request
For both housing colours the reflector is also available in white or black. A white reflector looks bright and calm, and the luminaire steps back. With a black one the opening stays dark and you mainly see the light on the floor. Add your choice to the order comment or ask us beforehand. The lead time stays at approx. 4 weeks.

Frequently asked questions
What is the lead time?
This luminaire is a project item with a lead time of approx. 4 weeks. Please order early. If you have a fixed opening or handover date, call us beforehand and we will confirm the date.
What is the difference between a surface mounted and a recessed downlight?
A recessed downlight sits in a cut-out in the ceiling and needs installation depth above it. A surface mounted downlight is screwed onto the ceiling. It needs no cut-out, which makes it suitable for concrete ceilings and rooms without a suspended ceiling.
Do I need a transformer?
No. The driver is built into the housing, and the luminaire connects directly to 230 V.
Which ceiling height is the Ø150 suitable for?
For rooms from about 3.5 to 4 m up to around 6 m. Directly below one luminaire, the calculated illuminance is about 280 lux at 4 m and about 125 lux at 6 m. For rooms up to about 3.5 m, the 18 W version or the Ø115 fits better.
How many downlights do I need for my room?
That depends on the floor area, ceiling height, wall and floor colours and the brightness you want. Send us a floor plan, the ceiling height and the use of the room, and we will suggest the number and spacing.
3000 K or 4000 K, which is better?
3000 K looks warm and suits foyers, function halls and restaurants. 4000 K looks neutral and clear and suits gyms, corridors and multi-purpose rooms. Wattage and design are the same for both.
Can I dim this version?
No, it is only switched. For dimming there is the DALI version with the same design and the same luminous flux.
Can I use the Ø115 and Ø150 in the same room?
Yes. Both have the same look, and at 4000 K the colour points of our samples were very close. We could not see a difference in light colour.
Does the luminaire flicker on video?
We measured 0 to 1 % flicker and a flicker index of 0.00. The luminaire therefore shows no stripes in phone videos.
Can it be used in bathrooms or outdoors?
No. With IP20 it is intended for dry indoor rooms only.
Which wattages are available?
You can choose between 33 W with 3,750 lm and 18 W with 2,330 lm. A 40 W version with 4,025 lm is available on request. The 33 W is more efficient than the 40 W and gives almost the same light.
Who makes the luminaire?
Licatec, a luminaire manufacturer from Saxony, Germany. It is made in the EU. The built-in driver is ENEC certified.
