300mm LED recessed downlight for high ceilings — 40W · 4,000 lumens · aperture 250 to 290 mm
The ED10K 300mm is not a standard recessed downlight — it is the professional high-ceiling downlight for demanding commercial projects. With 40 watts and 4,000 lumens it delivers 67 % more luminous flux than typical 300mm flat panel fittings at 24 W — at identical efficacy of 100 lm/W. Available in 3000K Warm White or 4000K Neutral White, with a very good colour rendering of CRI 92 (Ra > 90).
It fits ceiling apertures from 250 to 290 mm — the typical openings in commercial and public-sector buildings. Dimmable via standard trailing-edge wall dimmers or KNX dimmer actuator. DALI-2 version for large projects available separately.

Conclusion: The ED10K 300mm delivers 67 % more light, covers a far wider aperture range of 250–290 mm (typical flat panels only fit 280–290 mm), offers a 5-year warranty instead of the standard 24 months — all with better colour rendering, twice the rated life and genuine dimming capability.

CRI 80 vs. CRI 90+ — see the difference for yourself
In large spaces with many light sources, the quality difference is especially pronounced. Drag the slider and pay close attention to reds, teal and skin tones.

Gallery and showroom lighting: DIN EN 12464-1 requires CRI > 90 — the ED10K 300mm exceeds this with CRI 92.

What you see: At CRI 80, red and cyan spectral components are missing — reds turn brown-tinged, teal blurs into blue-grey. CRI 90+ renders the visible spectrum almost exactly as daylight — verifiable to CIE 13.3 / TM-30-20.
IP44 — suitable for damp locations within buildings
With protection class IP44, the ED10K 300mm is also suitable for damp areas within buildings — such as covered outdoor entrances to large commercial buildings or interior spaces with elevated humidity.
The driver is mounted separately in the ceiling void or surface-mounted enclosure at 40W — not inside the 50mm luminaire body. Rule of thumb: the aperture must be at least 10 mm smaller than the outer diameter.
Compatible ceiling apertures at a glance
250 mm260 mm270 mm280 mm290 mm
Advantage over typical 300mm flat panels: These usually only cover 280–290 mm apertures. The ED10K fits apertures from 250 mm upwards — greater flexibility for existing installations. Aperture 200–230 mm? → ED8KX 245mm (20W). Aperture > 290 mm? → 320mm silver reflector.

Important: At 40W, the driver is larger than on smaller models and is mounted separately in the ceiling void or surface-mounted enclosure — not inside the luminaire body itself.
Tested dimmer compatibility
Merten MEG5134-0000 rotary dimmer — up to 3 luminaires (at 40W per luminaire)
Note on 40W per luminaire: The higher wattage significantly reduces the maximum number of luminaires per dimmer circuit. For installations with more than 3 luminaires, we strongly recommend the DALI-2 version with a central controller — no minimum-load issues, suitable for large-scale commercial projects.
KNX / Smart Building
Compatible with KNX trailing-edge dimmer actuators (e.g. MDT, Gira). For large KNX projects we strongly recommend the DALI-2 version of the ED10K 300mm — cleaner addressing, no minimum-load issues, direct group control.
Important: Use only LED-compatible trailing-edge dimmers. Standard leading-edge dimmers for incandescent bulbs are not approved and may cause flickering or damage.

5-year manufacturer warranty — vs. typical 24 months for flat panels
What is the difference between the ED10K and a standard 300mm LED ceiling panel?
The ED10K is a genuine recessed downlight — not a flat LED panel. At 40W and 4,000 lumens it delivers 67 % more light than typical 300mm panels at 24W, has CRI 92 instead of CRI 80, lasts 50,000 hours instead of ~25,000h, and carries a 5-year warranty instead of the typical 24 months. It also covers apertures from 250–290 mm (flat panels usually only fit 280–290 mm) and is genuinely dimmable and flicker-free.
What ceiling height is the ED10K 300mm designed for?
With 4,000 lumens, a single luminaire at ceiling heights of 3.5–5 m covers approximately 8–12 m² of floor area. Ideal for shopping centres, malls, large office buildings and reception halls. At normal ceiling heights (2.5 m), the smaller ED8KX 245mm at 20W is often sufficient.
Which driver variant should I choose?
Option 1 (ON-OFF) for simple switching without dimming. Option 2 (40W trailing-edge) is the standard dimmable version for up to 3 luminaires per dimmer. Option 3 (20W trailing-edge) for lower ceiling heights where full output is not required. Option 4 (DALI) for KNX building automation or installations with more than 3 luminaires per circuit. Contact us if unsure — we advise free of charge.
Why is the driver mounted separately?
At 40W, the driver is physically larger than those used in smaller models and does not fit compactly within the 50mm installation depth of the luminaire body. It is therefore mounted in the ceiling void or a surface-mounted enclosure. This keeps the luminaire body compact and the installation tidy.
When should I choose the DALI version for KNX?
When you need more than 3 luminaires per circuit, KNX building automation or scene control (e.g. different lighting profiles per zone in a shopping centre). The DALI-2 version of the ED10K uses the same luminaire body — only the driver differs.
Project advice or lighting design?
For larger commercial projects (shopping centres, offices, hotels) we advise you personally on lighting design, number of luminaires, driver selection and whether trailing-edge or DALI is the better solution.
