Downlight, recessed spotlight or ceiling light – what is meant?
Several terms are used for this type of fitting: recessed downlight, LED downlight, recessed ceiling spotlight, ceiling downlight or recessed spot. They all describe the same principle, a luminaire set flush into the ceiling. The differences are structural: the bezel determines shape, colour, IP rating and cut-out size (72–85 mm here), the LED module determines output and colour temperature, and the driver determines how it dims. Anyone looking for a dimmable LED downlight with high colour rendering usually means exactly this combination of bezel, 13W module and DALI driver.
CRI 98 light quality, well beyond the CRI90 standard
CRI90 counts as the industry threshold for good colour rendering, and many suppliers advertise it. The 13W module of the Titan Spots series sits above it: the spectrometrically measured CRI is 98, so the module reproduces the daylight spectrum very closely.
Critical parts of the spectrum such as the R9 value (saturated red) are well above 90. For hotel lobbies, restaurants and high-end interiors that means skin tones, fabrics, wood tones and food are rendered without distortion, at every dimming level set via DALI.

Choosing the colour temperature
3000K or 2700K: where is the difference?
Both colour temperatures belong to the warm white band (below 3300 Kelvin under EN 12464-1). The gap is only 300 Kelvin, yet side by side it is clearly visible: 2700K has a yellowish-red cast like a classic incandescent lamp, while 3000K reads slightly crisper and more neutral without turning cold. Both versions of this module share the same CRI 98, the same DALI-2 electronics and the same 14 bezels.
Rule of thumb: use only one colour temperature within a single sightline, because side by side the difference is immediately obvious. Different rooms may well use different colour temperatures, for example 2700K in living areas and 3000K in the kitchen and bathroom. When adding to an existing installation, match the Kelvin value already fitted.

Intelligent lighting control with DALI & KNX
DALI is the dedicated standard for lighting management: every luminaire can be addressed, dimmed or grouped into scenes on its own. KNX is the building-wide control system and links trades such as lighting, heating and shading. The two are joined through a gateway, which is why this module often appears in KNX-DALI installations, from hotel rooms to conference rooms.
The DALI bus runs as its own 2-core control line, separate from the mains supply. That is the main difference to classic phase-cut dimming (TRIAC), which needs no bus line: anyone converting an existing TRIAC installation to DALI has to run an additional bus line to the distribution board or gateway.
Sustainability through a modular system
In this downlight the bezel, LED module and DALI driver are joined modularly rather than glued or soldered together. In the rare event of a fault, each component can be replaced or serviced on its own instead of scrapping the whole luminaire.
That keeps the installation flexible over time: if the interior style changes later, the bezel can be swapped for another colour or model from the selector. Housing, module and ceiling cut-out stay as they are.

Frequently asked questions (FAQ)
What is the difference between the 3000K and the 2700K version?
Both are warm white (below 3300 Kelvin). 2700K has a yellowish-red cast like an incandescent lamp and is usually chosen for living rooms, bedrooms, bars and hotel lobbies. 3000K reads slightly crisper and more neutral and suits kitchens, bathrooms, hallways, offices and retail spaces. Technically the modules differ only in colour temperature and luminous flux (1085 lm at 2700K, 1115 lm at 3000K); CRI 98, DALI-2 electronics and the bezel range are identical. Use only one colour temperature within a single sightline.
Can I change the beam angle?
Yes. As standard the module has a 36° beam. At extra cost we supply swap-in reflectors with 24° for a tighter accent beam or 60° for wider general lighting. The reflector is exchanged on the module itself, so the bezel and ceiling cut-out stay as they are.
What cut-out size do I need for this 13W DALI module?
It depends on the bezel you choose: the round bezels (Ø90mm) need a cut-out of 72–85 mm, the square bezels (90x90mm) a comparable cut-out in the same range. Pick your variant in the bezel selector above.
Can I choose freely between all 14 bezel variants, independent of the LED module?
Yes. The 13W DALI module in 3000K is compatible with every bezel shown: round or square, IP20 or IP65, in white, black, matt stainless steel and the two hotel bezel variants. Bezel, LED module and driver are modular.
Is this module also suitable for hotel and hospitality projects?
Yes, particularly well. The combination of CRI 98, digital DALI-2 addressing for lighting scenes and the discreet hotel bezels makes this module a common choice for hotel lobbies, restaurants and fine dining, above all together with KNX-DALI building control.
I have KNX smart home automation. Can I integrate this DALI luminaire with it?
Yes, that works. Via a suitable KNX-DALI gateway this luminaire integrates into a new or existing KNX bus system. That is exactly why it is used so often in KNX installations.
I have a DALI-1 bus system. Can I still install this 13W module?
Yes, the supplied DALI-2 driver is fully backwards-compatible with DALI-1 networks. It can also be controlled directly by PUSH dimming (a simple unlit wall switch) if no bus system is available.
What is the difference between DALI and a TRIAC dimmer?
DALI allows digital individual addressing, grouping into scenes and a smooth, flicker-free dimming curve, but it needs its own bus line. TRIAC dims by phase-cut, needs no bus line and always controls the whole circuit at once. This 13W module is a pure DALI module; if you want to dim without a bus, use a PUSH switch on the driver instead.
Do I need extra cabling when moving from a TRIAC dimmer to DALI?
Yes. The DALI bus needs its own 2-core control line, separate from the 230V mains, run to the distribution board or DALI gateway. Where that is not possible, the driver can be dimmed with a PUSH switch instead.
What does CRI 98 mean compared with the commonly advertised CRI90 standard?
CRI90 already counts as a high threshold in the lighting industry. This module sits above it at CRI 98: skin tones, fabrics and materials appear almost as they do in daylight. It shows most in hotel lobbies, in front of mirrors and when food is on display.
Can the DALI luminaires be addressed and controlled individually?
Yes. During commissioning each DALI-2 control gear is given its own unique short address on the bus. Every downlight can then be programmed, dimmed or grouped into scenes in software.
Can I reorder the bezel, LED module or driver separately if a part fails?
Yes. The modular design lets the bezel, LED module and DALI driver be reordered independently. A fault does not mean replacing the whole luminaire.
Can I change the bezel later if my interior style changes?
Yes. Bezel, housing and LED module are modular. If your interior style changes later, the bezel can be swapped for another colour or model from the selector above without touching the existing ceiling cut-out.

• A high CRI is decisive for perceived quality, particularly in hospitality and food service. JA. Standards treat a colour rendering index from CRI 90 upwards as high quality; at CRI 98 this module is well above that. The indoor lighting standard recommends an Ra of at least 80 where colour rendering matters (exhibition and retail spaces, for example), and premium applications usually aim considerably higher.
